Silver Scale, Tyr’s Guard, and Tyr!
Yet another post, but this was because I wanted to document something that was so exciting.
I’ve spent most of the last few days working through the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight campaign so I could actually go into the Emerald Dream and see Amirdrassil brought into the physical plane. Fyrakk was brought down, the aspect’s powers renewed, Amirdrassil became the new home for the Kaldorei, and then suddenly a new quest appeared for me.
I spoke to Alexstrazsa, the Life-Binder, Aspect of the red dragonflight, and began a quest called “The Gift of Silver”. What started was something I had never expected from World of Warcraft. We were reforging a Titan Keeper.

This multi-part quest line took me to several places in the Dragon Isles, as well as several moments through time.
We saw the original memory of the dragon aspects’ last meeting with Tyr, which sparked even more curiosity from me. If there is anything Titan in this game, I will immediately complete it.
My interest in the Titans dates back to Wrath of the Lich King because of the amount of Titan related stories, dungeons, and raids in it. As I sit AFK in my game typing this up, I am listening to the music that I have the most nostalgia of: The Storm Peaks. Let’s all remember that Ulduar is among one of the best raids to ever exist in this game (in my opinion).
So going on a quest that I had zero idea was specifically about Tyr and then finding out it was was beyond exciting.
Who is Keeper Tyr?
Tyr is a titan-forged keeper who once resided in the Temple of Order in Ulduar. He eventually died fighting against a C’Thraxxi named Zakajz in what is modern day Tirisfal, which was a result of him discovering Loken’s betrayal.
Did you know that’s where Tirisfal comes from? It is Vrykul for “Tyr’s Fall”!
He is most known for his “silver hand”, which was a prosthetic hand created by Jotun after losing his hand in the battle with Galakrond.
This “silver hand” went on to represent true justice only being accomplished through personal sacrifice, and was adopted by the Tyr’s Guard, and eventually, the Knights of the Silver Hand, aka paladins.
Reforging Tyr and Tyr’s Guard
We do it. The silver scale that Alexstrasza shows us leads us to reforge Tyr, albeit, in a form that was without a mind.
We adventure to Tyr's Grave, where you might remember that Paladin's go to get their legendary Silver Hand in Legion and live the moment that Tyr dies in his battle against Zakajz. According to lore it lasted six total days! Their power was so matched that Tyr sacrificed himself to save the world, while Archaedas and Ironaya escaped to Uldaman.
After, we are sent on several quests to be able to retrieve the Discs of Tyr, an artifact containing his memories. We triangulated where the disc was after being lost to time, thanks to Chromie and Eternus, and discovered it was in possession of Elisande at the Nighthold (a fun story for another day!).
Remaining Questions
After successfully finding the discs and returning home, we finally placed the disc into the forge and Tyr was resurrected. You find him in Tyr’s Rest and some of his dialogue is very interesting.
You can ask him three questions:
1. I saw your battle against Zakajz. Do you think we’re finally free of the Black Empire?
2. What can you tell me about the titans?
3. Can you tell me about other ancient battles you’ve fought?
Part of his response to the second questions should leave you wanting more: “But even as a keeper, I was not privy to their end goal. Nor can I yet fathom it.”
But the most important thing to me comes from Talthis, one of the new Tyr’s Guard members. He says:
“He said he must order his own mind and learn about this new world before "intruding" out into it.”
For me, this really brings about a few questions of what this could mean in the future as we progress through Midnight, the second installment of the Worldsoul Saga, and into The Last Titan, the final part of this saga, which are:
1. Will the Titans be foes in The Last Titan?
2. Is Azeroth the "prize"?
3. What is the "vast Titan conspiracy" we're set to uncover?
I'm ready for more!
